Thousands of fans tune into the Super Bowl yearly just for the halftime performance and this year was no different. Since it was announced last year fans of Lady Gaga have been eager to see her perform during halftime. Would she come out wearing a meat dress? Would she make some sort of political statement? With Gaga nothing is off the table and that got everyone more excited to tune in. While Gaga did not overtly say anything political she did have a message of unity when she opened her performance with a medley of “God Bless America” and “This Land Is Your Land” before reciting the Pledge of Allegiance.
She wore a stunning sparkling long-sleeved leotard as she jumped off the stadium roof to perform some of her biggest hits starting with “The Edge of Glory” followed by “Poker Face” all while hoisted up in the air doing back flips. She then took a huge leap onto the stage to perform “Born This Way” which includes the lyrics, “No matter gay, straight or bi, lesbian, transgendered life, I’m on the right track baby, I was born to survive.” This had the LGBTQ+ community and allies expressing their pride all over social media. She then transitioned to “Telephone” which had many fans hopeful that Beyonce would make an appearance, but alas she was nowhere to be found as she is too busy creating lives.
The hits just kept coming when she came out with a keytar and a beautiful gold jacket for “Just Dance” before sitting down on a piano serving some serious vocals to “Million Reasons” a song straight out of her fifth studio album Joanne. She ended her halftime performance with her 2009 hit “Bad Romance” which included flawless choreography as seen in the music video all while rocking a white crop top with shoulder pads. Not only did the world know they just witnessed an iconic performance but Gaga knew as well as she dropped the mic like the badass that she is. It did not end there. Gaga managed to catch a football in the air as she leaped off the stage. In conclusion, Gaga showed the world that she has the athleticism needed to dominate a Super Bowl stage in heels.
