New Music You Should Know

This has been a great week for up-and-coming artists who seem to be taking 2017 by storm. It proves you do not need to have a huge team behind you to produce quality music, you only need one thing–talent. Here are a few songs you should be listening to and artists to keep an eye on this year.

Khalid – “American Teen” (c) 2017 (c) 2017

This 19-year-old up-and-coming artist from El Paso, Texas is sure to blow up in 2017. “American Teen” is the pop-R&B song that will take you back to your teen years. It was released on March 3 as part of his debut album called American Teen. Khalid has a a soulful voice that resembles John Legend and Sam Smith. Listen here.
Brayton Bowman – “The Second I’m Rich” (c) 2017 (c) 2017

Brayton Bowman is basically a traveling gypsy. He was born in Philly but has spent a lot of time traveling back and forth between New York, London and is currently living in Los Angeles. “The Second I’m Rich” was released on February 24 as part of his autobiographical project, 22 Minutes Later. Bowman has described his sound as, “90s-R&B-influenced electronic music” but says he ultimately makes pop music. This independent artist is also one to watch in 2017. Listen here.

Cash Cash, ROZES – “Matches” (c) 2017 (c) 2017

Cash Cash have a been around for quite some time but have recently been making a comeback. You might recognize them from their electropop song “Party In Your Bedroom” which was part of their 2008 debut album Take It to the Floor, or most recently “Take Me Home” with Bebe Rexha. ROZES has been making a name for herself with the song “Roses”, a collab with The Chainsmokers. “Matches” was released on March 3 and is a personal song for ROZES about reminiscing on high school break-ups. Johnny Balik – “I Need It” (c) 2017 (c) 2017

Johnny Balik is a singer-songwriter, multi-instrumentalist from Chattanooga, Tennessee. He teamed up with Peter Cottontale of The Social Experiment for his debut single, “I Need It.” Balik sings about needing love and affection that only that one special person can give, while dropping names like Marvin Gaye, Steve Harvey and Yeezy. The song is something you might expect from Andy Grammer. Listen here.

Spencer Barnett – “Cherry Lips” (c) 2017 (c) 2017

Spencer Barnett is a 16-year-old San Francisco native who began singing at a young age. In 2015 he performed with rock band Third Eye Blind. Naturally, his voice has changed drastically from his acoustic EP, 13 Summers In. “Cherry Lips” is a catchy flirty song you are sure to be singing in the shower. Barnett’s new single resembles Shawn Mendes and a young Nick Jonas. Listen here.
