Throwback Thursday: Disney Edition

The early 2000’s might have left you with memories of updating your Myspace profile or visiting your local Blockbuster to rent your favorite movie, but do not forget it also provided us with some of the best Disney bops of all time. Not ashamed to admit I still workout to the High School Musical and Cheetah Girls soundtrack.

Let us reminisce on the good ol’ days with these classic Disney tunes:

Aly & AJ – “Potential Breakup Song”

This song came out in 2007 and peaked at No. 17 on Billboard’s Hot 100. This is Aly & AJ’s most successful single to date. Where are they now? In 2015 they released the film Weepah Way For Now and are both currently actors, Aly Michalka plays Peyton Charles on iZombie on The CW and AJ Michalka plays Lainey Lewis on The Goldbergs on ABC. They recently announced they will release a self-titled album in the coming weeks.

Hannah Montana – “Nobody’s Perfect”

The song was released in 2007 and currently has nearly 11 million streams on Spotify. Although Hannah Montana, the Disney Channel series, ended in 2011 Miley Cyrus continued to have success beyond being a character in a blond wig. Where is she now? In 2015 Cyrus released a side-project called Miley Cyrus & Her Dead Petz and was a judge on last years season of The Voice. Just last week her dad Billy Ray Cyrus announced in a tweet he is looking forward to Cyrus’ new music, so expect new music from her this year.

Jonas Brothers – “Burnin’ Up”

The song did pretty well peaking at No. 5 on Billboard’s Hot 100. The song featured their bodyguard Big Rob and the music video had a cameo by Selena Gomez. Where are they now? In 2013 the band abruptly cancelled their tour days before it was set to begin and soon after announced they were calling it quits. In 2014 Nick Jonas signed with Island Records and has released two albums since then. In 2015 Joe Jonas created the band DNCE signed by Republic Records and released their debut single “Cake By The Ocean.” Kevin Jonas is now married and has two beautiful daughters. He has switched to the tech industry and released a series of apps.

Vanessa Hudgens – “Say Ok”

The song was released in 2007 as her second single as part of her debut album V. Vanessa Hudgens made a name for herself by playing Gabriella Montez in the Disney Channel Original Movie High School Musical. Where is she now? Last year Hudgens was part of the television special Grease: Live which broadcasted on Fox. Earlier this year she partnered up with her High School Musical co-start Ashley Tisdale and released a cover of Elle King’s “Ex’s and Oh’s.” Besides acting and singing Hudgens continues to kill it with her fashion at music festivals and red carpet events.

Jordan Pruitt – “Outside Looking In”

The song, which was recorded for the Disney Channel Original Movie Read It and Weep, was released in 2006 becoming Jordan Pruitt’s debut single. The single ultimately peaked at No. 77 on Billboard’s Hot 100. Where is she now? Last year Pruitt released a Christmas song, “Merry Christmas Baby” which was the first time she had released any music in years. Now she is sharing her talent by providing aspiring singers with Skype vocal lessons.
