Kero Kero Bonito are a trio from London who have fully embraced DIY culture. Gus Lobban and Jamie Bulled noticed that music today was not speaking to them. In 2013 they posted an online advert looking for someone who could rap and liked acid house. That is when vocalist Sarah Midori Perry joined the group. Perry did not have much singing experience but was excited to join the group. Although their genre is mostly J-pop and dancehall, the trio told The Guardian they invented “pop utopia.” If you listen to their music you will notice it is much different from anything you have probably heard before. In many ways that was the point of why they started creating music in the first place. They wanted to change pop music and create something that was more direct. The result is pure experimental pop music. They are just finishing a few tour dates in American and are gearing up for a European tour next month.
Songs to listen to: Graduation and Flamingo.
